Here are a few things to check when a .vf export still looks much “bigger” than what you see on-screen:
Make sure every flow is really gone • A Voiceflow project can contain several flows(listed in the left-hand Flows panel). The .vf file always exports all of them, even the ones you’re not actively editing. Open the Flows panel, right-click any flows you don’t need and choose Delete.
Look for blocks sitting off-screen • The canvas is infinite—blocks can accidentally be dragged far away. Press S to re-centre on the Start step, then zoom right out (+ / – or mouse-wheel) to spot any stray blocks and delete them (right-click → Delete, or Del/Backspace). Remove templates you don’t need • If the template shipped with Library items, those steps are also saved to the project and will be exported. Open the Library tab, right-click unwanted templates → Delete.
Re-compile before exporting • After you finish deleting, click Run(or Publish) once. This re-compiles the project so the export only reflects what is on the canvas. Source: docs.voiceflow.com ➜ Fetch Project(“select ‘Publish’ or ‘Run’ … to ensure changes are reflected in the file”).
Last-resort clean copy If you still see historic data, create a new blank project, copy-paste only the blocks you want, then export again. That guarantees a minimal .vf file.
Give those steps a try and re-export—your file size/content should now match the current workflow.
