Communicating with the back-end of a website

I just had a call with a possible client. My offer was a chatbot to their website. They like the idea, but want a chatbot, that can communicate with the back-end of their website and complete actions like navigating between different pages adding products to cart (For example the user says something like "I would like to reorder my previous order". And based on this information the chatbot adds the product to cart) and similar actions. Unfortunately I have no prior experince with more advanced chatbot like this, so I don't really have any idea on how this would and where should I start. Does anyone have experience with chatbots like this? If so, I would like to ask you a couple of questions. Thank your answers in advance!

This can be done. Are you a dev? What website is the client's site hosted on (shopify)?
